Opening night of Harvest on the Harbor 2009! Lots of fun as this festival kicks off on the Portland Waterfront. Chef trap and Mindy dish up their very own house cured fennel Arctic char for a full house! Our Canadian photographer is sent out into the crowds to capture the scene!
The festival opens tonight and runs through Oct. 24…. Cheers!
High winds and small waves crash against a lee shore that is treacherously lined with a sandy beach today as a group of Opti sailors battle for their lives!
Pure skill, brawn and sailing smarts were put to the test to keep their ships from running up against the sandy beach… and certain destruction!!!!
Strawberries just walked in the back door from Moorebrook Farm about ½ mile away. The weather is helping to shape up good solid crops. Rhubarb has been strong and we just finished the incredible local asparagus. Our pastry chef Bill Leavy has just put out a new dessert menu that’s getting great reviews.
The giggles could be heard on the sunporch at the Inn. Just down below at the beach summer had started! Our photographer hopped on a bicycle and coasted down the hill to the Sand Dollar beach.
These two girls had started summer, there was no turning back. Summer, swimming, beachin, lazy days digging in the sand… its all a go right here at Black Point Inn.
The steady wizz and whirr of road bikes could be heard in front of the Inn this morning as it seems Black Point Road was part of an early morning bike route…. perhaps a tour de Prouts Neck?
ok ok… no all yellow jerseys, but many different colored jerseys…. take a look!
Sunny and warm day here out on Prouts Neck at Black Point Inn. Our photographer thought it was a perfect day to capture a few images of the Sand Dollar beach just below the Inn. On his way out he noticed that the bicycles were out and ready for guests use.
At the beach the sand was warm, the water clear and the Inn could be seen just above the dunes. See you all here soon!
It was the bicycle that caught our attention… its owner was able to allude the camera (seems our Canadian Photographer did not have a lens speed fast enough to catch him) but his dad and granddad were just coming back in with a bucket of fresh clams for dinner. Not quite the full summer population at the moment on Prouts Neck but if you look closely there is much to be seen going on at the beaches around Black Point Inn.
The first signs of Spring appeared this weekend here at Black Point Inn. We were lucky to have a Canadian photographer stop by and snap a few images of the first signs of Spring along the ocean out on Prouts Neck.
Pretty soon the fishing boats will be gliding by the Inn, the beaches will be full of folks enjoying the warm water, fishing, kayaking, and sailing. They are quiet now but soon the golf course and tennis courts will be busy with happy guests.
See if you can spot the last bit of snow… more images to come… especially if we can convince that Canadian photographer to take some more!
Oh… you may also notice cranes and other machinery in some of these shots. The Inn is doing some major work to the geothermal well system which is used to heat and the cool the inn’s guest rooms and common areas. The outside work is almost finished and after a little bit of plumbing work in the basement… everything will be ready for the upcoming season!

Headed out to check on some drapes in Whippoorwill, then had to keep going in the sunshine and relative warmth! No more Walking on Water; the little waves are lapping the shore again, and with the flora sort of winter bare I can see clear up to Pinetops, Cobblestone and Topside. A little audio added [...] […]
I’m about to head over and see how much more they got done yesterday afternoon. They’re so productive, these bridge builders! Improvements have been made on the walking trails, and now the path to Cliffside, Ledges and Moose Point. Maybe we could introduce carpentry as an Autumn Adventure. Another talent to share after Marcia demonstrates [...] […]
