Friday May 8… dawned beautiful at Black Point Inn… our very own Maine oceanfront inn! By mid-afternoon many folks were arriving for a romantic weekend getaway.
Spring was very kind to us and the weather was perfect for the first big night! And our regular guests Deborah and Jim King arrived just in time to have one of the first cocktails on the front porch overlooking Sand Dollar beach. They in fact were the last guests to enjoy a cocktail on the porch when we closed last fall!
Happy Mother’s Day weekend, and we hope to see you all soon!
Tonight we opened the Chart Room and the Point dining rooms! Happy folks from our local area were excited to be able to join us at Black Point Inn for our first meal of the season. The Inn opens completely this weekend but we decided to do a soft opening over the next few nights leading up to the weekend. The skies were starting to clear and a few clinks of glasses began to be heard.
Meanwhile in the kitchen research and development continued with Chef Trap Landry trying a new pasta dish that he plans to serve in the chart room this summer. Homemade pasta made right here in our own kitchen, fresh spring peas, large gulf shrimp, and apple-smoked bacon. Sounds good! We will work on getting more details about this dish out soon… Hopefully the pictures can do some of the talking! Nikki, (one of our managers) happened by and got to do some of the hard work of testing herself along with Trap.
Seems there was one more well to work on at Black Point Inn. This one just outside the Point dining room. The crane truck arrived today and the boys quickly set to work… all seemed to go quite smoothly as they finished the outside work on the last of our geothermal wells used for heating and cooling the inn.
Well fairly smoothly…. they were, after all, working on a well… and you know wells are all about water… which they quickly found!
It was the bicycle that caught our attention… its owner was able to allude the camera (seems our Canadian Photographer did not have a lens speed fast enough to catch him) but his dad and granddad were just coming back in with a bucket of fresh clams for dinner. Not quite the full summer population at the moment on Prouts Neck but if you look closely there is much to be seen going on at the beaches around Black Point Inn.
Interesting video appeared here today. This one of our sister property, Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake. Migis Lodge and Black Point Inn are two of the very few remaining historic resort properties in Maine. There are a few others to be sure, but not many remain.
Interesting event here next to Black Point Inn on Prouts Neck this morning. A large truck arrived carrying a tree heavily wrapped in protective swaddling. A giant forklift came along and slowly lifted the tree up and off the truck.
Turns out the tree was a 25-30 year old Beech tree that was destined to be planted in one of our neighbors gardens. No doubt this Beech will have a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean!
The neighborhood around Black Point Inn is waking up with all kinds of Spring activity!
Ohh and a hint and reminder to some…. Mother’s Day is right around the corner…. don’t forget!
The first signs of Spring appeared this weekend here at Black Point Inn. We were lucky to have a Canadian photographer stop by and snap a few images of the first signs of Spring along the ocean out on Prouts Neck.
Pretty soon the fishing boats will be gliding by the Inn, the beaches will be full of folks enjoying the warm water, fishing, kayaking, and sailing. They are quiet now but soon the golf course and tennis courts will be busy with happy guests.
See if you can spot the last bit of snow… more images to come… especially if we can convince that Canadian photographer to take some more!
Oh… you may also notice cranes and other machinery in some of these shots. The Inn is doing some major work to the geothermal well system which is used to heat and the cool the inn’s guest rooms and common areas. The outside work is almost finished and after a little bit of plumbing work in the basement… everything will be ready for the upcoming season!
Just added a neat ‘plug-in’ that should update our twitter account every time we post a new blog. Helping to keep you up to date… if you are following us on twitter.
Hope this works..??.. nothing yet….. help!
New posting coming shortly…. spring has arrived to Prouts Neck!
The Inn is closed, the water has been drained, the reservations and administrative offices have been moved into Portland for the winter, the geothermal heat is still on, all-be-it set very low, and we’re now experiencing a January freeze. We often think about keeping the inn open year-round, and the picture of Sand Dollar beach near sunset yesterday gives you some idea why.
We can imagine the fires burning in the fireplaces, with guests milling about in the lobby and the Chart Room after a great day of hiking or cross country skiing on the beach or the golf course. Apres ski consisting of the Chef’s sampling of warm hors d’oeuvres and sipping seasonal wines by the fire while viewing Sand Dollar beach with Mt. Washington on the horizon. Ahh, maybe for another year.
LINCOLNVILLE, ME Practically our next door neighbor – Whale’s Tooth Pub – is located just a mile down the road, right in Lincolnville Beach. With a patio facing Penobscot Bay, the ferry and Islesboro, the location is perfect for a summer meal. Although, we should note, they are open year round, and have a fabulous […]

Welcome back to our visit with Guy and Tatiana McChesney, the heart of the wellness experience at Migis Lodge.
